WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Aside from doing our very
best to just get the word out that diabetes is on the rise
worldwide, due mostly to diet, inactivity and non education,
the main goal is to assist those in need, that deal with the
reality of the day to day complications and challenges of
being diabetic. I learned myself that I was diabetic, when I
thought was a wounded foot, was actually diabetes related, and
serious enough that I will become a below knee amputee on
March 13th, 2008. By educating myself, and taking the proper
steps, I now have my diabetes and health in control.
Over 300 BILLION dollars in lost work hours and productivity
were felt last year alone in the United States. It is much
higher in countries such as Russia and China. Simple
nutritional education and menu planning could make a large
difference in the ability of newly diagnosed and pre
diabetics, as well as people that have lifestyles that seem to
prevent them from eating safely and in a diabetic healthy way.
INITIATIVES
My main objective is a worldwide solution, to help assist
people in picking the right foods, how much of them to eat,
how to prepare them, and ever where to get the proper
ingredients. This will be delivered in such a way, that it
will be accessible to all people at all times.
The second part of this initiative, is a facility in
Abbotsford BC, where this technology will be put to the test
by using the information provided to actually prepare and
deliver the food to diabetics in the area that are new to the
disease, or incapable to prepare or afford the necessary
foods. This facility would be open for diabetics, or the
family and friends of to come and volunteer, and learn to
prepare these foods. Working closely with the government at
all levels to provide funding to assist the people that need
financial help to receive this service and fundraising from my
yearly events would take on the financial burden of these 2
initiatives.

BC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
Sadly, children can be the hardest hit by this disease, and
the lifestyle change and treatment, most times involving
multiple blood tests and insulin shots can be terrifying,
painful and troublesome on the mental level. I hope to help
comfort these kids, and get them some amazing links to tasty,
safe products and the safest and most comfortable testing and
delivery methods available.

UNIVERSITY OF
TORONTO - FACULTY OF MEDICINE
Some of the most amazing breakthroughs and research in the
world of diabetes is happening at this facility. Although the
majority of my fundraising is to aid in the comfort and
nutrition of diabetics, research is also of great interest and
hope to diabetics and their families. |
